I previously used homebrew to install R and the package installer for RStudio. Recently I started using Boxen, which takes over homebrew. I had to re-install R from source using homebrew, and it now exists in my Boxen Cellar location. Now RStudio no longer launches, saying 'Unable to locate R binary by scanning standard locations'. I tried reinstalling RStudio (I needed to upgrade anyway) but that didn't help. It doesn't even open for long enough to let you specify a custom location.

The attempt to install data.table failed due to a problem compiling the package from source. Before trying to fix that, though, you might try installing the binary (already compiled) version that's available — it's not that much older than the source version. Unable to open Word, Powerpoint, and OneNote 2016 - 'Getting Check with the developer to make sure Microsoft Word works with this version of OS X'. Mac OS X 10.11.5 (15F34) Report Version: 11. And re-install. There's shouldn't be a need to uninstall as the installer will correct problems like this where binary images are missing.

OK I figured it out finally. Discovered from this post that you can set RSTUDIO_WHICH_R to your custom location. On Mountain Lion, this is most easily done with:
For OS X Mountain Lion 10.8:
Another option is to set a softlink from /usr/local/bin to the custom R path, but the above seems like a better solution.
Edit: For newer macOS versions:
But after a restart
launchctl has forgotten the environment variable again.Therefore a LaunchAgent-.plist for launchctl must be created.Instructions could be found here.

I ended up deleting the alias file 'R' from /usr/bin/ In this way, I don't have to set the RStudio environment variable every time. From http://www.rstudio.com/ide/docs/advanced/versions_of_r
Rstudio looks first in /usr/bin/R and then on /usr/local/bin/R, where I have the new version of R installed.

This worked for me:1. First install R 3.2.0 binary for Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) and higher at http://cran.r-project.org/bin/macosx/2. Then run R3. Then run RStudio

I have recently begun using knitr with Rstudio. I ran into the 'No tex installation detected. Please install TeX before compiling.' error in both my Ubuntu and windows OS's.
After some research I was able to amend the issue in Ubuntu by adding the directory of my tex installation to PATH. I did this by including the following line in Renviron.site
However, the issue remains for my windows installation. I was unable to find the Renviron.site file, so I created one in the same directory of Renviron, and added the location of my tex installation in windows:
However this does not solve my problem and Rstudio is still unable to find my tex packages, such that
Returns FALSE.
How should I proceed?

R will always source the Rprofile.site file first. On Windows, the file is in the C:Program FilesRR-n.n.netc directory.

I found package tinytex to be of interest. It allows to install a minimal tex distrib without administrator privilege, takes care of path, and useful function to add missing tex packages. Works well with knitr
It is written by Xie Yihui author of knitr.

Let me build up to @HeavenZone's answer:
This article will help you understand the usability differences between Xamarin Studio & Visual Studio (which I have felt) for making the decision clear that which IDE should you use for Xamarin Forms development. Visual studio with xamarin. Now than Xamarin Community is free for everyone, we don’t require a Xamarin professional license to build Xamarin applications using Visual Studio However some of developers who are joining the Xamarin development for first time may think that which IDE should they start with in order to develop Xamarin applications. Some people have Mac (like me ) with Windows as Virtual Machine and Some may have just Windows.
R Studio For Mac Os Unable To Locate Binary After Installation
You should go onto
C:Program FilesRR-n.n.netc
directory and give permissions to modify the files in on the folder. This can be done by doing
Right click->Properties->Security->Edit->Select Users->In Permissions list tick->Write
Once you're done you should open the file Renviron.site on the directory etc. And add a line like
PATH=C:Program FilesMiKTeX 2.9miktexbin64:${PATH}
I wrote a new line, assume that the definitions are concatenated. Perhaps you need also pdflatex.exe in the above path.
Once you have this, restart Rstudio and it should grasp now the latex distribution.
I would probably change the title of this question to include that this is the Windows version so that it is easy to look for it, however my edit was rejected so I leave it to someone else..
